Joseph Hutchinson, 84, died at 10:01 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Jerseyville Manor. He was born on September 26, 1933 in Patterson, NY to the late Richard E. and Winona (Brazeal) Hutchinson. Following his high school graduation, Joe was accepted into the United States Naval Academy and enlisted with the Marine Corps, serving our country honorably in the Korean War. On June 23, 1956, he married the love of his life, the former Mary Canaday in Indiana and throughout their 62 years of marriage they have shared in the joys of raising their family with one another. After living in several different cities, Joe settled with his family in Grafton where he would go on to serve as a city Alderman for many years. Joe enjoyed gardening and canning tomato juice, as well as many other vegetables from his garden. He was also a talented carpenter and designed and built many pieces of furniture in his home. Surviving are his wife, Mary Hutchinson; four sons and their spouses, Michael & Becky Hutchinson of Fieldon; Richard and Patty Hutchinson of Jerseyville; Carter and Mychele Hutchinson and Thomas Hutchison, all of Grafton; nine grandchildren, Amber Hutchinson, Patrick Tepen, Brian Hutchinson, Jennifer Adcock, Heather Bear, Joseph Hutchinson, Elizabeth Joseph, Charlotte Hutchinson and Mackenzie Hutchinson; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sam Hutchinson of Fennemore, WI; two sisters, Rebecca Erickson of Minnesota and Susan Martinek of Downers Grove. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth on April 4, 1975; sister, Marcia Bryant and a brother, Michael Hutchinson. Per his request, no services will be held. In his memory, please take a little time for yourself, relax with a cold drink, talk to a neighbor or simply be kind to one another. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is assisting the family with arrangements.
