Joseph Hawkins

Joseph Barton Hawkins, 85, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025 surrounded by family.

Born November 18, 1939 in Woodward, OK, he was the son of William Herman and Mary E. (McPherson) Hawkins.

He had been an electrician for McDonnell-Douglas 39 years before retiring in 1997. Joe had served with dedication to the Rosewood Heights Fire Department for over 40 years; and lifetime member of Vaughn Hill Church of Christ.

He married Janet Hagerman on September 10, 1960 in Alton. She survives.

Surviving also are two sons, Joe (Debbie) Hawkins of Nora, IA, Jeff (Sheryl) Hawkins of Cedar Rapids, IA; three daughters, Jennifer (Nick) Aguinaga of Wood River, Amy Hawkins (Josh Utnage) of East Alton, Debbie (Grady) Howell of Nesbit, MS; 15 grandchildren, Hannah (Deci) Hernandez, Joe (Michelle) Hawkins, Jacob (Keriann) Hawkins, Daniel (Tara) Phillips, Tabitha (Jared) Kloempken, Eli (Katie) Aguinaga, Adam Aguinaga, Christina (Steven) Stokes, Nathan Hawkins, Katie (Marcus) Frey, Emily Hawkins, Dalton (Oliviah) Jones, Hudson (Eason) Treadway, and Carrie Howell; 15 great-grandchildren, Aleigha, Demitrez, Edgar, Juniper, Brigham, Garland, Josie, Maisie, Bryn, Jeremiah, Jasper, John, Elliot, Iris, and Amelia; and sister, Mary Sickbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christina Hawkins Phillips; and brother, Tom Hawkins.

Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service at 12 pm, Monday, October 6 at Vaughn Hill Church of Christ, 662 S. Bellwood, East Alton, IL.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials are suggested to the Rosewood Heights Fire Department or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
