Jonathan Kribs
Godfrey | Save
Jonathan “Jon” Adam Kribs, 39, of Godfrey, went to be with his Savior, at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024 at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center after a hard fought and courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma. Born March 23, 1985, in Alton, IL, he was the son of Thomas “Tom” Kribs of Brighton, IL and the late Karen L. (Klohr) Kribs.
Jon was a 2003 graduate of Alton High School, where he played soccer and was a kicker on the football team, sang in the choir and was a member of the Encounter Youth Choir. Jon attended Lewis and Clark Community College and Ranken Technical College where he graduated in 2007 with a degree in architecture. He was employed by Holland Construction as a Virtual Design and Construction Engineer. He was a former lifeguard, swim instructor, and lifeguard instructor at Lewis and Clark for many years. Jon was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Godfrey Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He was also a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and was an active member of the youth group when he was in high school and was a youth leader while in college.
On June 21, 2008, he married the former Emily Kruse of Godfrey. She survives. In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kendall and Lydia Kribs at home, a brother, Timothy Kribs (Brandy) of Delhi, a sister, Kristin Claybaker (Jordan) of Wentzville, MO, father- and mother-in-law Mark and Debbie Kruse of Godfrey, sister-in-law Kara (Ryan) Govreau of Godfrey and eight nieces and nephews: Andrew, Alexander, Adam, Abram, and Anna Kribs, Evan Claybaker, and Norah and Addison Govreau, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, maternal grandparents Albert and Susan Klohr, and paternal grandparents Harold and Jeanie Kribs and Dorothy Kribs.
Jon was the ultimate family man, best girl dad (unless glitter was involved), Flag Day aficionado, and a huge fan of the shorts and sandals combination year-round. He looked forward to going on camping and trout fishing trips at Montauk State Park, which was a tradition carried on from his dad and grandpa. Jon had a joy for traveling that began at a young age when he went on many road trips with his family. He also enjoyed float trips (where he was always in charge of cooking breakfast and fire building), hiking, and watching his girls’ sporting events. He was always up for a spontaneous adventure with Emily and the girls and was always working on the next “dad joke” or sarcastic comment. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Per his request, cremation rites were accorded and there will be no visitation. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with luncheon to follow in the community center. Interment will occur at a later time. Father Steven Janoski will officiate. Celebration of life to be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kendall and Lydia’s Education Fund in care of the family. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
