Jon LeRay Garner, 79, of Brighton, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
He was born on December 31, 1945, in Beardstown, IL, the son of the late James and Norma (Jones) Garner.
Jon married Judy Baumgarte on June 7, 1975. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2020.
He retired from Alton School District as a high school science teacher. Jon was a devout and faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Brighton where he also served for several years as the leigh speaker.
Jon is survived by five children, Gina (Josh) Guthrie of Lansing, MI, Darin (Traci) Garner of O’Fallon, MO, Christy Garner of Hazelwood, MO, Dave Garner of Brighton, IL, and Brian (Jenna) Garner of Alton, IL; four grandchildren, Michael Guthrie, Gavin Garner, Landon Buchheit, and Lexi Garner; one sister Aleta Garner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Norma; beloved wife Judy; sister Twyla Horton.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.
Funeral will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Brighton.
Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
