Johnnie Nicholson

Alton | Save

Mr. Johnnie “Lil Bud” Nicholson, a beloved husband, brother, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in Alton, Illinois. He embraced life with warmth, humor, and an unwavering spirit that endeared him to all who knew him.

Born to the late Mr. Albert Nicholson, Sr. and Ms. Glover Nicholson, Johnnie grew up in a close-knit family rooted in deep faith, shared strength, and enduring love. He lived his life with genuine passion—whether cheering on his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, or spending quiet moments enjoying good food and time with family. He remained an avid sideline quarterback, linebacker, defensive end, and honorary cheerleader for the Chiefs every season. He also loved to eat and enjoyed swimming, finding joy in the simple moments that brought him peace.

Johnnie was a proud retired member of the Machinists Union, having dedicated his career to his work with Olin Brass. His commitment, grit, and craftsmanship left a lasting impression on those who labored beside him.

Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mrs. Jeri Nicholson; his beloved children, Mrs. India (Steve) Martin and Mr. Gerad Bruce; and seven grandchildren—five granddaughters and two grandsons who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He also leaves his twin brother, Mr. Willie “Big Bud” Nicholson of Washington Park, Illinois; and his two loving sisters, Ms. Elsie Tucker and Ms. Susie Nicholson, both of Fairview Heights, Illinois.

He now joins in eternal rest the family members who preceded him in death: his parents; his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Denise Bruce, beloved wife of his son Gerad; two sisters—Ms. Mattie “MattLee” Hayes Ivey of Macon, Mississippi, and Ms. Ella Nicholson Taylor of Scooba, Mississippi; and four brothers—Mr. Albert Nicholson, Jr. of East St. Louis, Illinois, Mr. Henry “Sappy” Russell Nicholson of Scooba, Mississippi, Mr. Jeff Nicholson of East St. Louis, Illinois, and Mr. Richard “Wiley” Nicholson of Scooba, Mississippi.

Visitation will convene Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until time of Service at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Saint James Baptist Church. Interment will be held Monday, November 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Upper Alton Cemetery. Pastor Don Sanford will officiate.
