John "Jack" Harold Springman, 77, of Chesterfield, Missouri, passed away at 7:50 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2024, at Garden View Care Center in Chesterfield.
Jack was born on May 11, 1947, in Alton, Illinois, to the late Bernard W. and Harriett (Meyers) Springman. He earned his Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and proudly served in the United States Army. Jack dedicated 32 years to public service including the FBI and the United States Post Office.
A devout member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, Jack was also an active member of several community organizations, including the Alton-Wood River Sportsman's Club, Alton Eagles #254, the American Legion, and was a past president of the Alton and Godfrey Kiwanis Clubs.
He is survived by two brothers, Ry (Carol) Springman of Godfrey, IL, and Matthew (Erin) Springman of Mokena, IL, along with his sister Dell Marie Kelby of College Station, Texas. Jack was also cherished by several nieces and nephews: Jenny (Josh) Farley, Kevin Springman, Mary Kate (Scott) Selling, Chris (Sue) Kelby, and Mary Beth (Brett) Lazarine. He is further survived by numerous great nieces and nephews, including Reiley, Oscar, Gus, and Harry Farley; Cooper and Nelly Selling; Quinn and Koen Lazarine; and Noah Kelby.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, Illinois, with Father Jeff Holtmann, OSF, officiating. Burial will take place at St. Denis Cemetery following the service.
