John M. Slotta, 80, of Glen Carbon, Illinois went to be with the Lord at 2:51 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born November 14, 1944, in Granite City, the son of the late Michael Andrew and Rose Marie (Misiorski) Slotta.
He married the love of his life, Cordelia “Ann” (Seals) Slotta on May 4, 1968, in Madison and she survives.
John retired as a Chief of Detectives from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office after 14 years of dedicated service as a Deputy Sheriff. After his retirement, he went to work at National Steel as a security guard and retired after many years of service.
He was a faithful member of Bethel Chapel in Granite City since 1974, where he had served on the Board of Trustees and helped with the Bus Ministry. He loved sharing his talent playing the accordion, loved reading the Bible and sharing the word of his Lord and was known for always handing out gospel tracts. He was also a member of the United Steelworker’s Local, cherished his grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 56 years, he is survived by three children, Lori Slotta of Dalton, Ohio, Michael and wife, Renata Slotta of Bethalto and Heather and husband, Don Harris of Glen Carbon; six grandchildren, Emily, Hailey, Tyler, Hunter, Liam and Anaston; other extended family and many friends.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Bethel Chapel, 2445 Ohio Avenue in Granite City on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Pastor David Brimm officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to the Sunset Hill Campground and may be accepted at the church.
