John (Jack) Quigley 1940-2023
Captain Jack is what they called him, but he retired from the Alton fire department as one of the Assistant Chiefs after 25 years of service. Jack then completed his career after retiring from Madison County IL, as the Director of the Emergency Management Agency.
Jack was married to his high school sweetheart, Marilyn (Twichell) Quigley for 58 years. Marilyn followed Jack to Germany while he served in the U.S. Army. While in Germany, Jack and Marilyn had twin sons. Tom (Linda) Quigley and Tim (Debbie) Quigley. Upon their return to the States, they had a daughter Marilyn (Rick) Porter. After 6 long years of wanting another baby, their wish was granted with a son Todd (Jenna) Quigley.
Jack spent his last five years living in Beverly Hills, FL. He loved sitting by his pool enjoying a Cuba Libre with his sister Diane (Bill) Glover and brother Terry (Betty) Quigley along with nephew Steven (Nancy) and their son Jason Profer. He had a special friend Marcia Martins
Jack is survived by his children, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister, a brother, sister-in-law Jackie (Ron) Lesicko, sister-in-law Carolyn (Mike) Bradley, and many nephews and nieces.
If you knew Capt’n Jack, you knew he was a hard and dedicated worker but when he was off work, he really enjoyed his time with family and friends. When I say really enjoyed it, I mean he really lived life to the fullest.
Capt’n Jack’s Top Ten List:
(1). Hosted world-renowned 4th of July parties at the Holiday Shores house.
(2). Caught the most crappie and biggest crappie in “moms” fishing spot multiple years on Reel Foot Lake.
(3). Enjoyed eating “Bald Eagle” sandwiches with his kids and grandkids.
(4). Would sometimes use the creamer as syrup for his pancakes while eating breakfast at Village Inn after a night out.
(5). Sharing a cigar butt with his 4-year-old granddaughter while fishing.
(6). Sank and brought back to life his Lowe fishing boat 8 times.
(7). Loved to dance to his favorite song, Cherry Bomb.
(8.) Burning his balls, in short shorts while fishing.
(9). Traveling to Brazil at age 82.
(10) Fish fry’s and taking people for boat rides on Holiday Shores.
There will be a celebration of life at 4 pm, Sunday, July 2nd at Tony’s Ranch House in Godfrey, IL. Please come and enjoy a Cuba Libre and add to Capt’n Jack’s Top Ten List.
