John Jones

John F. Jones, 80, of Edwardsville, Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 4, 1945, in Murphysboro, Illinois, a son of the late Carl W. and Mildred Bernice (Tripp) Jones.

He married the love of his life, Nancy “Wanell” (Marrs) Jones on February 13, 1971, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and she survives.

John was the owner and operator of Commercial Telephone Systems from 1974 until his retirement in 2000. He proudly served his country in the Missouri Air National Guard and the United States Air Force Reserves.

A man of deep faith, John was a devoted and active member of Cornerstone Ministries in Litchfield, where he served faithfully as a board member, trustee, and in many other roles. Prior to that, he was a longtime member of First United Pentecostal Church in Granite City, where he ministered alongside Pastor Kenneth Reeves for many years. He also led the church’s morning prayer ministry from 1986 to 2009, touching many lives through his dedication and leadership.

John was known for his strong work ethic, unwavering generosity, quick wit, and steadfast commitment to faith and family. He enjoyed hunting in his younger days, and always cherished time spent fishing and traveling the world with his wife. Above all, John’s life centered around serving God and loving his family, who were his greatest joy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Natasha and Steve Benthal of Edwardsville; a son and daughter-in-law, John Douglas “Doug” and Leah F. Jones of Georgetown, Texas; five grandchildren and spouses, Chandler Benthal, Natalia and Brett Grubbs, Charis Jones, Roman and Emily Jones and Alayah and Jarek Wehrle; two great grandchildren on the way; two sisters, Roberta Fuller of Granite City and Mary Piquard of Alhambra; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; other extended family, church family and cherished friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Jones and a sister, Flo Polacek.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Visitation will continue at Cornerstone Ministries, 812 S. Old Rt. 66 in Litchfield on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Pastor Steve Benthal, Pastor Doug Jones, Pastor Keith Parris and Pastor Mike Mullins will officiate.
