John Hagemeister

John A. Hagemeister, 79, of East Alton, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

He was born on August 23, 1946, in Granite City, IL, the son of Frederic C. and Ella M. (Jaimet) Hagemeister.

John is a United States Army Reserve Veteran. After graduating from Edwardsville High School, he proudly served his country, and then began his career, working at Shell Oil Refinery as a pipe fitter until his retirement. He was a member of New Witness Fellowship Church. After his retirement, he became a bus driver for the Roxana school district. He enjoyed going out to eat, fishing and cars. John also enjoyed softball and coached the church's team.

Survivors include his siblings, Dan (Vicki) Hagemeister of Camden, NC, Ruth (George) Ellis of Punta Gorda, FL, Martha (Steve) Heath of Lee's Summit, MO, and Mark Hagemeister of Glen Carbon; a dear friend and companion of  14 years, Regina Watson of Cottage Hills; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Hagemeister.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 4 to 7 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services will also be held at 10 am, on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Pastor Ed Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorials are suggested to New Witness Fellowship in Bethalto.
