John Garner

John Keith Garner, 66, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1959, in Alton, Illinois, a son of the late Arthur Paul Garner and Mary (Lasater) Sievers.

On November 2, 1991, in Edwardsville, John married the love of his life, Joan D. (Chitwood) Garner, who survives. John dedicated many years to his work as an HVAC technician, most recently with Morrison Heating and Cooling and previously with AMK Heating and Cooling, earning the respect of coworkers and customers alike through his strong work ethic and reliability.

John was the definition of an all-American man. He was deeply rooted in his Baptist faith, held steadfast conservative values, and was a proud member of the N.R.A. He loved the outdoors and took great pride in his gardens and his beekeeping. A passionate fan of Branson, Missouri, John delighted in sharing his knowledge of the area, always eager to tell others where to go, what to see, and how to get around town. He also held a special affection for the State of Arkansas and its people.

A devoted dachshund enthusiast, John dearly cherished his dogs, Sophie and Olie. Above all else, family was the center of his life. He was a loving and devoted husband, a proud father, and a cherished papa whose presence brought strength and comfort to those around him.

In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by a daughter, Angela (Scott) Mersinger of St. Jacob; two sons, Ronald Bitticks of Bethalto and Randall Bitticks of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Heather (Jared) Cupples, Kayla Mosby, Alizabeth (Tony Stiehr) Mosby, Alexandria (Ray Weaver) Mosby, Allison Mosby, Alyssa Bitticks, and John Bitticks; five great-grandchildren, Anderson, Kolson, Carter, Lorna, and Kaydon; a bonus daughter, Ashley Westbrooks; two brothers, David (Maggie) Garner of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Mark Garner of Edwardsville; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon, with Reverend Daniel Renfro officiating. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Troy, Illinois.
