John E. Ingalls, 94, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon. He was born May 20, 1925, in Fraser, Iowa, a son of the late John Edward and Esther (Anderson) Ingalls. He married N. Elizabeth (Perry) Ingalls on April 6, 1947, and she passed away on February 19, 2019. He was a teacher and principal and retired as a superintendent after 35 years of dedicated service in education with many schools throughout the years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan, a voracious reader and had a love of history. He is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, John L. and Blenda Ingalls of Red Bud, Illinois, Gerald Ingalls of Alton, Illinois and Marlin Ingalls of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren, Sarah Ingalls of Shiloh, Illinois and John Ingalls of Reston, Virginia; two brothers, Rev. James Ingalls of Springfield, Missouri and Wayne Ingalls of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Carol Ingalls of Pasadena, California and Sharon Ingalls of Bear Mountain, California; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Rev. Richard, Virginia, David, and Bonnie.
In celebration of his life, graveside services and military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.
