John Baldwin

John D. Baldwin, 74, of Bethalto, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 6:18 pm, at his home with family by his side.

He was born in Wood River, IL, on March 21, 1951, the son of Kenneth L. and Margaret (Haller) Baldwin. John married Valeria Overmeyer in Wood River, on February 5, 1977. She survives.

John was an avid guitar player since the age of 15. He was also an avid music fan, passing his love of music onto his children and grandchildren. John was a strong family man, and a man of many talents who, at his core, was a dreamer. He was always thinking of the future and dreaming of the next big thing.

He was loved and admired by many and was always willing to lend a helping hand, and provide meaningful life lessons and support to those he came into contact with.

After earning his degree in Mass Communications from SIUE in 1973, he worked several jobs doing many things he enjoyed. They included film editor for Communico Merits Corp in Fenton, MO, then he went on to work for Clark Oil Refinery doing many jobs, such as an operator, a pipe-fitter, an electrician through IBEW as Shop Steward, and a training coordinator.

Along with his wife, Valeria, he is survived by his children, Charlie Baldwin of Bethalto, and Alex (Mallory Gregory) Baldwin of Bethalto; brother, Bob Campbell of Marion, IL; and two grandchildren, Liam and Benjamin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Benjamin Cain Baldwin.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with final wishes and cremation rites.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
