John Andersen

John C. Andersen, 77, of Belleville, IL, born May 31, 1948, in Chicago, IL, entered eternal life on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, IL.

John was a devoted member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL. John loved music and earned his bachelor’s degree in music education. He was very active in St. Mark’s music ministry and served as a choir director in several churches for over 40 years. John worked as a manager for JCPenney until his retirement. He had various hobbies including trains, building Legos, reading, camping, and fishing. He loved watching Chicago Cubs baseball and Star Trek. Above all, John loved celebrating Christmas with his family, friends, and church family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Adam Andersen; and his parents, Andrew and Hulda Andersen.

Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Sue Andersen, nee Braeutigam, whom he married on June 19, 1971, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mascoutah, IL; two daughters, Anna (Chris) Curnes of Murfreesboro, TN and Jessie Nixon (Chris Lutes) of Ogden, UT; his grandchildren, Quinnten and Arianna Curnes; two sisters, Helene (Tom) Kiefer of FL and Audrey Huber of WI; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Rosalie Braeutigam, Jim (Gail) Braeutigam, Shirley Braeutigam, Larry Huber, and Tom Kiefer; several nieces and nephews and their families; and his grand dog, Apollo and grand cats, Odysseus and Conan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL, for the music ministry and food pantry. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Brian Robison officiating.

Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
