Janet Annette Schweppe, 62, of Alton, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born October 20, 1961, in Alton, IL, Janet was the daughter of the late Harry N. Schweppe Jr. and Janet S. Schweppe (nee Schranz).
After graduating from Alton High School and Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, Janet began her career as a banker with Boatmen’s Bank, later joining Bank of America, where she provided investment products to clients throughout the south-central U.S. Upon leaving Bank of America, Janet spent the last 20+ years working as a librarian with the Hayner Public Library in Alton, where she enjoyed her frequent interactions with the public. Janet was also a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of the Monticello College Foundation, where she was a strong supporter of the foundation’s goals to further the higher education of women.
Janet began her adult life living in St. Louis, enjoying the local spirit and nightlife of the Central West End. Twenty-five years ago, she returned to Alton, taking up residence in the family home overlooking the river. Here, she and her friends would spend many evenings on the porch enjoying the sunsets with a cool beverage, discussing the day’s events.
She is survived by her brother, Henry (Trip) N. Schweppe III, and her sister-in-law, Andrea Schweppe, both of Garrison, NY, and her beloved dog, Jasper.
