Janet M. Baechle, nee Austin, 76, of Belleville, IL, born February 16, 1949, in Decatur, IL, died Monday, December 1, 2025, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.
Jan worked as a claim’s assistant for Allsup for many years before her retirement. She married her husband, Dave, on July 28, 1972, and they celebrated 53 years together. Together they built a life centered on their family. She was the proud mother of Michelle (Ed), Beth (Josh), Jennifer (Dan), and Stephanie (Mitch). Jan raised her daughters to be strong, independent, and unafraid to speak their minds. Her pride expanded even more with her grandchildren, Hannah (Andrew) Liam (Sarah), Sam, Xavier, Jackson, Magnolia, Henry, Violet, Hazel, and Archer. She became a great-grandmother to George and Florence, bringing that same fierce love across yet another generation.
Jan was a former member of the Fairview Heights Elks #664 and a member of the Swansea Moose Lodge #1221. Jan served her community faithfully for years as a tireless volunteer at the Moose Lodge. Her dedication was awarded by receiving Moose of Year in 2023. She enjoyed attending Broadway musicals at the Fox Theater with her sister-in-law, Sandy Baechle.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; two aunts, Emma Dill and Ollie Keck; and a brother-in-law, Wilbert Baechle.
She is survived by her loving husband, David H. Baechle; four daughters, Michelle (Ed) LaPorte, Beth (Josh) Hanock, Jennifer (Dan Clobes) Baechle, and Stephanie (Mitch Jones) Baechle; 10 grandchildren, Hannah (Andrew) Vineyard, Liam (Sarah) Vineyard, Samuel LaPorte, Xavier LaPorte, Jackson LaPorte, Magnolia Clobes, Henry Jones, Violet Clobes, Hazel Jones, and Archer Hanock; two great-grandchildren, George Vineyard and Florence Vineyard; two brothers, Carl (Yvonne) Austin, and Gary (Pam) Austin; a sister-in-law, Sandy Baechle.
