James Stone

James "Jim" W. Stone, 88, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 5:35 pm, at his residence.

He was born on May 3, 1936, in Greenville, IL, the son of Willard F. and Thelma R. (May) Stone. Jim married Lela M. Teems in St. Louis, on June 27, 1959. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2018.

Jim is a United States Air Force Veteran. He worked after serving in the military at Olin Corporation as a forklift driver, doing construction and heating and cooling, but ultimately retired from SIUE from the maintenance and custodial department in 2021. Jim was a member of the Assembly of God Church in South Roxana. He enjoyed camping in Sorento, IL, working crossword puzzles, reading, country western and gospel music, and learning about history.

Survivors include a son, James "Jim" (Sheryl) Stone of Jerseyville; a son-in-law, Dave Reno of Benld; a loving sister, Joan Neel of Macoupin County; a brother, Jesse Stone of Macoupin County; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Lacie, Alisha, Cole, Jayce, Nevaeh, Alyxia, and Andrew; and several great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Lela, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Debra Reno.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A private inurnment will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, IL.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
