James Cook

James K. “Jim” Cook, age 75, of Trenton, formerly of New Baden, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at Nexus in Mascoutah. He was born on August 16, 1950, in Breese, the son of the late Charles and Imogene (nee Poos) Cook.

Jim graduated from Wesclin High School in 1968. He attended Murray State where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 1972. In 1973, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 4 years in Air Traffic Control. He then began teaching English at St. Rose and also coached volleyball at Breese Central. He taught for nearly 30 years. Jim loved coaching and won many state titles. He enjoyed going to balls game and was an avid sports fan.

Jim is survived by his brothers, Denny (Kathy) Cook and Robert (Joan) Cook; many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his best friend, Tom Becker.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. A Private Internment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will be held.

In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to Breese Central Volleyball Team and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St., Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
