Jackie T. Cooper, 88, of Bethalto, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 6:14 a.m., with his family by his side.
He was born on June 7, 1936, in Alton, IL, the son of Emil T. and Edith F. (Dossett) Cooper. Jackie married Patricia L. Kelly on July 8, 1955 at the East Alton Church of God parsonage. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2007.
Jackie worked as a pipefitter for 32 years at Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Bethalto Church of God, where he made the tea for the funeral dinners. He had a passion for building things, including the houses he lived in. Jackie enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends, Shirley, Shirley, Betty and Paul.
He is survived by his children, Steven (Sherry) Cooper of East Alton, and Dr. Timothy (Julie) Cooper of Wentzville, MO; a sister, Beverly G. Hewitt of Texas; a sister-in-law, Sallie Cooper of Bethalto; grandchildren, Kharissa Guss, Lindsey (Kyle) Starks, Nathanael, Olivia, Samuel (Katie), Benjamin Cooper and Max Kreienheder; and great-grandchildren, Landyn, Keegan, and Kennedi Starks.
Along with his parents, and wife, Pat, he was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell E. Cooper; a brother-in-law, Don Hewitt; and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m., at Bethalto Church of God. Pastor Jacob Skelton will officiate. Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with final arrangements.
