Henry E. "Buck" Hord (89) passed away at his residence Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 just as Hurricane "Milton” entered the area of Palm Bay, FL.

Born March 1, 1935 to Verna A. Bright and M. Harold Hord in East Alton, IL at his Grandparents’ home.

Educated in the Alton IL School System. Following graduation from Alton High School in 1953, he attended University of illinois, Shurtleff College in Alton, and SIUE in Edwardsville, IL.

He was employed at Laclede Steel Co. in Alton; retired after 37 years in 1991. He was an electrician and in his later years, was in management.

On December 18, 1955, he married the lovely Norma Jean Gibbs at the First Christian Church, Jacksonville IL, by Rev. Gerald Miller, she survives. What a ride we shared.

Buck enjoyed his youth growing up in the "Milton" area of Alton IL. He participated in baseball, basketball, and most outdoor activities. He truly loved Quail hunting, training bird dogs, fishing, golf, and the many wonderful people he had the pleasure of playing with or meeting on the golf course. Jean and Buck enjoyed over 37 years owning lake property at the Lake of the Ozarks in "Missoura" as Buck pronounced it. He played trumpet in school as well as Alton Muny Band. He enjoyed nine years helping with Alton Little League baseball with several talented helpers. After retirement, he spent 10 years working with the "Grandpa Gang” Christmas lighting at Rock Springs Park in Alton.

Three children survive: Douglas E. Hard (Lee's Summit MOI, Debra J. (ohn) Goodman (Northville MIl, and Constance D. (ohn) Baxter (Malabar FL. Six Grandchildren, Jeremy (Lz), Megan, and Sara Goodman (Paul Gil, Fiancé) all residing in the Northville Mi area. Brandon (Tyler) Hord, (Greenwood MO), Taylor Hard (Parker CO) and lan Baxter (Malabar FL). Four Greatgrandchildren, Henry E, and Claire Hord, Jonathan and Grace Goodman along with several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister and her husband, Shirley L. (Carl) Ursprung.

He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church, Alton, IL, past member of the Alton Eagles and presently the Order of the Moose 1406, Melbourne, FL.

According to his wishes, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
