Henry Gavin

Henry S. Gavin III, 60, of Wood River, Illinois passed away at 1:33 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Evercare of Edwardsville. He was born May 6, 1964, in Alton, Illinois, a son of Henry S. Gavin II of Rochester, New York and Sharon June (Brinson) Emshousen of Hartford, Illinois. Henry proudly served with the United States Navy for 25 years of faithful service until his retirement. He was the recipient of many medals, honors and recognitions throughout his years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for the United States Postal Service in East Alton. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and was a proud sailor. He cherished his family and friends and loved his children and grandchildren. In addition to his beloved parents, he is survived by his bonus mom, Leveda Gavin of Rochester, New York; brother, Paul Gavin of Hartford; stepbrother, Laramie Gavin of Rochester, New York; special niece, Hannah Gavin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; extended family, Brianna Chiti of Bossier City, Louisiana, Kassandra Price of Chesepeake, Virginia and Jordan Price of Chesepeake, Virginia and their children, Teddy, Logan, Cali, Hayden, Ezekiel, Ambellina, Sterling, Samuel and Lilith.

In celebration of his life, a graveside service with military honors will be held at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, with Reverend Willard Meyer officiating.
