Harvey Arnold Bieber was called home to be with our Lord the morning of September 5th, 2024 in Alton, Illinois. He was born in Pierre, South Dakota to Herman and Ludwina Bieber on September 30th, 1938. After High School he served in the Navy from 1957 to 1961. On November 22, 1963 he started his job at McDonnell Douglas in St Louis, MO. He married Olene Staton on September 5, 1971 at Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton where they attended church until 1987. They then began going to First Baptist Church of Grafton in Grafton. After 32 years at McDonnell Douglas, he retired in 1995. He shortly thereafter decided retirement just wasn't ready for him, so he went to work for the next seven years for Senior Services in Alton delivering meals to the elderly, a job he absolutely loved.
He was a staunch KJV man, loved talking about the Bible and all the wonderful things the Lord had done in his life after he was saved. One of those things was the gift of being able to memorize multiple books of the Bible years ago and quote them word for word right up until he passed away. At First Baptist Church in Grafton, he willingly wore many hats over the years, from errand runner/handyman for summer camp, Sunday School teacher, deacon, and so many more as he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved to be with people that loved the Lord and loved doing His work.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their daughter Ann Cervantes of Jerseyville, two grandchildren: Alyssa Marie Cervantes-Siefert (John), Jordan Michael (Christine) Cervantes and one great grandson, Leon Gray Cervantes, a brother August Bieber of Lead, SD and a sister Millie Vanderwerff of Lead, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Bieber and Ludwina, two sisters Esther Leatherman, Diane Tyndall and a brother Raymond Bieber. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 p.m. noon Monday, September 9, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be private at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
