Guylend Terrell

Guylend "Guy" Eugene Terrell was born on September 20th, 1932 in Alton, Illinois. He was the son of John "Globe" Terrell and Beulah Collier.

Guylend attended Alton High School and graduated in 1953. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

Guylend returned to Alton, IL to marry the love of his life, Joann Crowder on March 8th, 1957. They went on to have four beautiful children. While their children were young, Guylend was on active duty with the U.S Air Force.

They traveled across the country and lived in various places, like Spain and England. Guylend retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years and later retired for Shell Oil after 20 years, of course Guylend could not sit still, after retirement Guylend began driving school buses for the Alton School District. Also becoming a helper at a local daycare where he was known as the "Candy Man."

Guylend regularly attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Guylend was a faithful member of the Alton High School Booster Club and was recently honored for instituting the 50/50 raffle ticket program for Alton High School Athletics Department.

Guylend also served as a member of the NAACP, 100 Black Men of Alton as well as a member of the Crown Royal Motorcycle Club.

Guylend was a lover of music and love to dance.

Guylend faithfully attended the local gym three times a week. Some of Guylend's favorite activities were playing dominoes, riding his motorcycle, traveling to basketball ball games and spending quality time with him family and friends.

On Tuesday, February 10th, 2026 our dear beloved Guylend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Guylend was proceeded in death by his parents John "Globe" Terrell and Beulah Collier.

Guylend is survived by his wife of 68 years Joann Terrell as well as two brothers, Rickey Terrell & John Major.

Four Children, Allan (LaSandra) Terrell,Tyran (Michelle) Terrell, Lori Terrell, Noel (James) Bratton, six grandchildren, Cherries, Eric Sr., Joanna (Mashaun), Tony (Surya), Tyran Jr. (Jacey), Amber Terrell, ten great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and a host of beloved cousins and many friends.

Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 20, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Vera Lee Event Center on Broadway in Alton.
