Gerold Myatt

Gerold Thomas “Jerry” Myatt, 86, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and formerly of Granite City, passed away peacefully at 12:54 a.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.

Born on January 20, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Audrey Myatt and Jesse Pace.

A hardworking and passionate entrepreneur, Jerry owned and operated JM Motors in Granite City for over 50 years. His love for the roar of an engine was unmistakable — throughout his life, he enjoyed motorcycles, Corvettes, and powerboats, always drawn to speed, craftsmanship, and freedom on the open road or water.

Jerry lived life to the fullest. He found peace outdoors, especially by the lake, and he never shied away from hard work. With a big heart and generous spirit, he was always ready to lend a hand and offer support to family, friends, and even strangers. Above all, he deeply cherished time spent with his loved ones.

He is survived by his six children: Gerold Myatt II and MacyAnne A. Myatt, along with their mother, Heather Myatt, Cindy (Duane) Doerr, Darin (Beverly) Dawson, Melissa (Matt) Rogier and Jason (Shelby) Myatt.  He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Marcia Weeks; nieces and nephews; his cherished dogs, Beamer and Juni; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Myatt, and his sister, Faye Irwin.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be held on Monday, September 1, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace East Chapel, 4701 IL-111, officiated by Pastor Steve McKinney.

Jerry will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

In honor of his giving nature, memorial contributions may be made to the Oakbridge Development Center and will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
