George Thomas Korte passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 21st at his home in Brighton.

Born March 30, 1932 in Alton to Dwight and Adele (Pieper) Korte, he graduated from Marquette Catholic High School and served in the U.S. Army. He spent over 40 years building homes for Springman Construction and then Preis Construction of Godfrey.

He married Mary Hentrich of Alton on June 20, 1953. Along with his brother Larry (Carolyn), he is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, his nine children, Jeff (Cindy) Korte, Tim Korte, Steve (Becky) Korte, Matt (Susan) Korte, Cathy Korte, Ann (John) Vay, Barb (Dan) Geenen, Amy (Rick) Minor, Tom Korte, 27 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Gene and Harold, and sisters-in-law Rosalee, Dee and Irene.

His body has been donated to St. Louis University Research Center.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton.

He was a man of few words, a hard-working, no-nonsense guy with a great sense of humor. He led by example, accomplishing so much and earning the love, gratitude and respect of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregiver Jayne Marburger, along with Becky Watters and Joanne Groves from OSF Hospice. Their love and care for him has been a tremendous blessing.

In lieu of flowers a memorial may be sent to St. Alphonsus Church or Marquette Catholic High School.
