Gary Dean Steinmann, PA-C, age 65, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home at 10:01 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
Born October 26, 1960, in Alton, Illinois, he was the son of the late Carl and Betty (Diest) Steinmann. Gary married Robin (Reaugh) Steinmann on December 27, 1998, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel.
Gary was raised on the family farm in Hamel and remained a lifelong, faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He attended St. Paul Elementary School and graduated from Edwardsville High School.
He went on to study Laboratory Science at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Western Illinois University. Gary completed his residency at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, graduating summa cum laude. Gary worked as a Laboratory Supervisor at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Granite City for ten years. Later, he earned his Physician Assistant degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Throughout his distinguished career in medicine, Gary exemplified patience, integrity, and dedication to his patients and colleagues. He served as a Physician Assistant at the Bone and Joint Clinic in Nashville for two years. He then decided to move back home and was a Physician Assistant with General and Vascular Surgical Associates at Anderson Hospital for 19 years. Following, he was a hospitalist at Schumacher Clinical Partners, and then a Primary Care Physician Assistant at Anderson Medical Group.
Gary was a proud member of the American Academy of Physician Associates, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. His patients and peers admired his exceptional bedside manner, honesty, and ability to teach and mentor others.
Beyond his professional life, Gary was a man of many talents and passions. He held a pilot’s license and was a lifetime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. A skilled craftsman and carpenter, he built his own listening room and completed countless home projects with care and precision. He was also an acoustic guitarist, avid audiophile, and home theater enthusiast. Gary was a talented mechanic and enjoyed snowmobiling in Wisconsin with friends.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Robin; her children, James Newton of Collinsville and Rebecca Reaugh (Dustin) Duncan of Ashland, Nebraska; his grandson, Whitaker James Duncan; two brothers, Kirk (Sharla Labelle) Steinmann of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dan (Sue) Steinmann of Staunton, Illinois; a close cousin and friend, Reed (Kim) Hellmann of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri; his in-laws, Randall (Mindy) Reaugh of Greenwood Village, Colorado, and Cindy (Jeff) Bartlett of Benbrook, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, located at 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, Illinois, on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6969 W. Frontage Road, Worden, Illinois, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend William Weeden officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Worden.
