Gary Boyd

Gary Francis Boyd, 88, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024, in Maryville, Illinois. Born on September 19, 1936, in Flora, Illinois, he was the cherished son of the late James H. “Doc” Boyd and Elda “Joan” (Flick) Valentine.

On October 30, 1976, Gary married the love of his life, Jacqueline J. Jants, in Florissant, Missouri. Their enduring bond was a testament to their deep love and commitment, and Jacqueline survives him.

Gary was a proud alumnus of the University of Wisconsin, where he earned a Master’s Degree. A pioneer in the field, he dedicated his career to advancing computer hardware and technology, contributing significantly to the innovations we benefit from today. Family was at the heart of Gary’s life. He found immense joy in being present for his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and practices, often serving as their dedicated chauffeur. His wonderful sense of humor and quick smile would lighten any mood, making him a beloved figure among family and friends. Gary will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, boundless compassion, and deep love for those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Harold “Doc” Boyd and Elda “Joan” (Flick) Valentine.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 47 years, Jacqueline Jeannette (Jants) Boyd, of Granite City, Illinois; his children, Gary A. (Dawn) Boyd, of Granite City, Illinois, Tara M. (Christopher) Armstrong, of Granite City, Illinois, Brian L. Boyd, of Kansas City, Missouri, Brandie (Steve) Olson, of Kansas City, Missouri, Robin McGee, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Joli (Jeff) Nelson, of Mesa, Arizona; his grandchildren, Gary B. Boyd, Michael A. Boyd, Dylan T. Boyd, Morgan T. Carney, Mathew T. (Tai) Carney, Dustin J. Armstrong, Samantha P. Armstrong, Cayla M. (Travis) Armstrong, Christopher M. Armstrong, Jr., Stevie J. (John) Spiegel, Blake P. (Eris) Olson, Alex (Shannon) McGee, Madison R. Dunning, and Jared Nelson; his great grandchildren, Emmett, Emmarie, Ellie Mae, Amelia, Lillianna, Florence, Cora, Oliver, Piper, and Carter; his siblings, Steve (Paula) Boyd, Jimmy (Pam) Boyd, Terry (Lynn) Valentine, and Robert Barnwell; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral: Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Illinois.  Interment will be held privately.
