Effie Dugan

Effie L. Dugan, 101, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023.

She was born Oct. 10, 1922 in Golden Pond, KY, the daughter of Andrew and Naydean (Fergerson) Crump.

Effie was married to Cecil Ray.  She then married Harold Dugan on Apr. 21, 1962 in Alton, and he preceded her in death in 1999.

Effie worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. for 22 years.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cottage Hills.  She was happy, and had a smile for everyone she met.  She would say, “God is good, and God is always so good to me.  Praise him forever!” Effie gave her heart to Jesus at the age of 24, but left him until age 64.  She returned and told him she was sorry and asked his forgiveness.  She felt life was beautiful and worth living.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Glen and Martha Ray; one daughter, Janet Ray; 3 granddaughters and 3 grandsons; several great and great-great grandchildren; and one niece.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters and a brother; a son Wayne Ray; a daughter, Carolyn Stoeckel; three grandsons and a great-great grandson.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 24 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 11 a.m. until services begin at 12 p.m.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
