Edward Whitehead

Edward Lee Whitehead, of Jerseyville, IL died peacefully on July 24, 2024 at the age of 92.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Laura (Rick) Gabriel of Alton, IL and April (Tony) Keene of Marion, IL.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew (Emily) Keene of Kirksville, MO, and Alyson Keene, Anna Keene, and Dallas Tilinski of Marion IL, and his two great-grandchildren, Logan Wood and Addison Wood of Godfrey.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife Tresea Whitehead, his grandson Greg Wood, as well as his parents and many siblings.

Edward was born October 1, 1931 to Edward Lee and Nellie Ellen (Havlin) Whitehead.  He graduated from Jersey Community High School class of 1949.  Following his time in the United States Army, Edward worked at Baughman Mfg as a drafter then joined the United States Postal Service.  Edward retired from the USPS after 31 years of service in 1992.

Edward was a passionate motorcyclist, riding mostly Harley-Davidson's from his mid-teens until he was 89 years old.  Edward was also a talented woodworker and clock fixer; fixing clocks that many felt were unfixable.  He would tackle any task laid before him with determination, always expecting a positive outcome.

Ed never missed an opportunity to extend a hand to someone and his generous spirit is an example to us all.  Ed was greatly loved by his family and friends and was faithful to both in all ways.

It was his desire to be privately cremated and we will honor his wishes as our final act of love towards him.  A celebration of life will be announced in the near future. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
