Dorwin Looper

Dorwin R. Looper Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025.

He was born in Pike County Illinois on June 1, 1938, to the late Dorwin Looper Sr. and Anna (Henry) Looper. He married Sharon (Sevier) on August 23, 1958.

Dorwin was active in the North Calhoun Fire Department, drove the ambulance occasionally, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kampsvile but has been attending the Nebo Nazarene Church for the last few years. He was also a member of the Fieldon Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He retired from the Carpenter’s Union #664 after 50 years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Veronica (Greg) Woelfel and Kirby Dorwin (Angie) Looper; four grandchildren, Gwen (Charles H.W.) Burch, Gretchen (Chet) Trenary of Georgia, Katie (Wade) Yokem, and Kristopher Dorwin Looper; six great grandchildren, Charlee Burch, Greta Burch, Ella Yokem, Madelyn Yokem, Clyde Trenary, Conway Trenary; sisters, Virgina (Gene) Smith and Patricia Wright; brother-in-law, Sam (Sandy) Sevier; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a special and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great grandson, Jacob Stelbrink; siblings, Gary Looper and infant sister; stepfather, Ira Dyer and several stepbrothers and sisters; his father and mother-in-law, Joe and Helen Sevier; and sister-in-law, Patty (Ray) Tolbert.

Visitation will be Friday, December 19, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin, IL.

Funeral service will be Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin, IL.

Burial will follow at Summit Grove Cemetery in Kampsville.
