Dorothy Ruth Marshall Bailey, 83, passed away on December 8, 2025.
She was born on August 7, 1942, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Herbert E. and Jenny (Grammer) Marshall.
Dorothy married James Bailey Sr. on August 15, 1964, in Murphysboro. She attended nursing school and began her nursing career at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was a longtime member of Godfrey Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
An active bowler at Bowl Haven, Dorothy also enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was affectionately known as "the sucker lady" selling her homemade suckers and candies at fairs across the region.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband; her son, James (Paula) Bailey Jr. of East Alton, IL; her daughter, Cheri (Jeff) Cooper of University City, MO; and her beloved grandchildren: Megan (Eian) Bailey, Lindsey (Will) Bailey, Jackson Cooper, Ella Cooper, and Evan Cooper. She is also survived by nieces, Janet Mittendorf and Carol (Alan) Racey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Herbert (Lois) Marshall; and her nephew, Robert Marshall.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m., at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home, Godfrey, IL. Lyle Witcher will be officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park.
Memorials are suggested to the Women's Club at Godfrey Methodist Church.
