Donavon “Don” Eugene Deeder, 74 passed away at 9:21 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born May 10, 1950 in Jacksonville, IL the son of the late Donavon and ruth Evelyn (Cummins) Deeder. He retired after forty plus years as a machinist. In those forty years he worked for Laclede Steel, Owens IL and Western. Don was an Eagle Scout and an avid duck and goose hunter and fisherman and was a member of Franklin Lodge No. 25 A.F. & A.M. On March 1, 1969 in Wood River, he married Jeanette Ruebling and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Tracy Ducey (John) of Godfrey, Denise Schleeper (Chris) of Alton, one son, Zack Deeder (Kristen) of Alton, five grandchildren, Olivia, Donavon and Madeleine Ducey, Summer Schleeper and Austin Olson, two sisters, Brenda Oehler of Godfrey and Cynthia Holt (Larry) of Brighton. Besides his parents Don was preceded in death by one grandson, Maximus Christopher Schleeper, one brother, Mark Deeder and one brother-in-law, Dean Oehler. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 4–7 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Ronald McDonald House.
