Donald Neer

Donald Lee Neer, age 80 of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home. In lieu of flower, plants, and gifts it was Don’s wishes that you take someone you love out to lunch in his honor. Memorials may be made to Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Donald “Don” Lee, the son of Charles and Sarah May Rockwell Neer, was born February 20, 1944, in Highland, Illinois. Don grew up in Greenville, attended the local schools, and graduated from Greenville High School with the Class of 1962. Don answered our country’s call by enlisting in the Army and serving with the 5^th Army during Vietnam 1968-1969. He was honorably discharged and returned to Greenville. Don started working for Western Electric in 1965 and retired in 2001. One of his greatest loves were helping others. This was evident in Don’s role in building the first Habitat for Humanity House in Greenville.

Donald and Barbara Breuer were united in marriage on November 6, 1971. They have enjoyed 52 years together. Don and Barb are the parents of Craig Neer (Megan Snow) and Nicholas Neer (Laura Klein). They are the grandparents of William “Will” DeSherlia.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nadine “Doodle” Hillard.
