David Leroy Hawk, 76, died at 3:05 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his residence.He was born in Kane on May 15, 1935, and was the son of the late Leslie "Shug" & Alice (Mundy) Hawk.David attended Kane schools, and graduated from Jersey Community High School. As a young boy, he worked at Darr Garage in Kane, and continued his career in automobile mechanics, working at Albrecht-Hamlin in Wood River for many years retiring in 1991.He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of the Kane Baptist Church, Alton Eagles Lodge, and the East Alton American Legion.He married the former Donna Lee Tungett on Nov. 17, 1956 at the Kane Baptist Church, and she survives.Also surviving are three daughters & sons in law, Kelly & Ted Johnson of Florissant, Mo., Marsha Hawk, and Karen & Allan Scroggins of Alton; eleven grandchildren; two sisters & a brother in law, Janet & Dale Stone of Buellton, Ca., and Gloria Smith of Wichita Falls, Tx; and a brother, Rodney Hawk of Jacksonville.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Edward Hawk in 2005.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Kane Baptist Church in Kane.Burial will take place at the Kane Cemetery with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the Kane Baptist Church.
