David Lee Carroll, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at his residence. He was born February 1, 1944 in Jerseyville, IL the son of the late William and Mary (Rennison) Carroll. David grew up working on the farm with his family. As a 4H and FFA member he loved working with crops and livestock. This love of the farm would grow into a proud hobby of showing registered Montadale sheep and raising registered Gelbvieh cattle. The family showed sheep on national and international levels, winning many awards along the way. Growing up he was a talented and avid basketball player and known for his deadly hook shot. David was a barber in the U.S. Army and worked with his brother Roger, at Carroll Brothers Barber Shop in Jerseyville. He then returned to college for his teaching degree and taught 5th and 6th grades at West Elementary in Jerseyville for 32 years. He was affectionally known as “Mr. C.” David will always be remembered for being a hard working and honest man with a quick wit and love of people and his family. He also enjoyed traveling to national parks with Rocky Mountain National Park as his favorite. On October 1, 1968 in Jerseyville he married Linda Jo Crawford and she preceded him in death on February 13, 1990. In December of 1996 in Alton he married Sharon Anderson and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Damon Carroll (Jill) of Jerseyville and one daughter, Julie Carroll (Allison Iversen) of Jerseyville, one granddaughter, Hannah Johns (Dylan) of Godfrey, one brother, Roger Carroll (Jean) of Jerseyville and one sister, Mary Kay Camp (Larry) of Jerseyville, sister in law, Sylvia Ninnis of Caseyville, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Beloved grandson, David Carroll. His father in law, Willie “Buster” Anderson, also held a special place in his heart. Visitation will be Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. -6:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton where he was a member. Visitation will continue on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with Full Military Honors. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate.
