Daralene D. Bethel, 91, passed away Monday, November 17, 2025 at Longevity Living of Godfrey.
Born July 30, 1934 in Greenfield, she was the daughter of Virgil H. and Louise B. (Cochran) Sykes.
She married Howard Earl Bethel Apr. 7, 1962 in Wood River. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 2001.
Daralene worked as a cook at the former Red Baron Lounge in Bethalto, and had also worked at Owens-Illinois Glassworks in Alton. She enjoyed quilting, jigsaw puzzles, Bingo and peach schnapps. Daralene was a tireless volunteer for the Community Hope Center as well as the South Roxana Dad’s Club and the Wood River VFW and Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was a league bowler for nearly 50 years. Her family fondly remembers her canning and making holiday peanut brittle and buckeyes. She also was a member of Ivy Heights Church of God.
Survivors include her children, Edward (Judy) Williams of Pekin, IL, Kathryn Powers-Revie of Pekin, Wayne (Teri) Bethel of Brockport, PA, and Michael (Mary) Bethel, of Godfrey; a stepson, Raymond Bethel of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Joshua Webb, Sarah (Scott) Hofkin, Courtney Bethel, Kasey Bethel, Ryan (Megan) Bethel, Kelsey (Michael) Tomaszewski, and Nicholas (Dikchhya) Bethel; and four great grandchildren with one more on the way.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Patty Williams; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Mark Webb; a son-in-law, Dale Revie; a stepson, Timothy Bethel; and her brother, John Curtis Sykes.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
