Dana Toomey

Dana Kay (Boren) Toomey, 58, passed away peacefully in her childhood home on October 10, 2025, in Godfrey, Illinois, surrounded by love.

Born on March 30, 1967, in Alton, Illinois, Dana was the daughter of James and Frances Boren. She grew up in a home filled with laughter, music, and the simple joys of small-town life.

Dana graduated from Alton High School in 1985 and went on to earn her Veterinary Technology Degree from Texas State Technical Institute in 1988. She spent 25 dedicated years at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where her dedication and compassion made a lasting impact. She retired at age 56.

On October 8, 1988, Dana married her sweetheart and best friend, John Toomey IV, in Jerseyville, Illinois. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home in Houston, Texas, where they raised two children, Taryn and Avery. Dana was a devoted mother, but her nurturing spirit reached far beyond her immediate family - she was a second Mama to many, always ready with an open door, a warm meal, or a listening ear.

Dana had a deep love for life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, a passionate runner, and in recent years, found joy traveling across the country in her Airstream with her beloved greyhound, Audy. She loved a good book, quiet mornings, and the company of those she held dear.

More than anything, Dana loved her family. She was the heart of every gathering, the steady presence in every storm, and the warmth in every room. Her legacy is one of love, generosity, and gentle strength.

Dana is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, John Toomey IV; their daughter, Taryn Aimee (Toomey) Rodriquez; their son, Avery Peyton Toomey; son-in-law, Dylan Cameron Rodriquez; and her beloved grandson, Teddy Peyton Rodriquez, all of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her loving parents, Jim and Frances Boren; her sister, Treena (Boren) Lemons; and her brother, Jason Boren.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be on October 17, 2025 from 8:00am until 10:30am at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Homes - Godfrey, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, IL.
