Cynthia Gibbs

Cynthia Audrey “Cindy” Gibbs, 68, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

She was born on June 25, 1957, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Charles and Rae (Jones) Marshall. On September 27, 1974, she married Barry Joseph Gibbs at Glenview Assembly of God Church in Granite City. He survives.

Cindy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. During her daughters’ school years, she served as president of the PTA, always actively involved in their lives. She loved going to the movies, traveling, sewing, and knitting. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family—she cherished her children and especially adored her grandchildren.

In addition to her beloved husband of 50 years, Barry, she is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Katie and David Birchmier of Collinsville, Megan and Ryan Cunningham of Troy, and Shelby and Blake Powers of Granite City; her treasured grandchildren, Layla, Owen, and Ruthie; a brother, David Marshall of Granite City; a sister, Jane Clarkston of Edwardsville; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Darren Marshall.

In celebration of her life, private services will be held at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon during a private family ceremony.

Memorial contributions may be made to Glenview Assembly of God Church and will be accepted at the funeral chapel. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.irwinchapel.com.
