Charlotte Birdsong

Charlotte Rose Birdsong, 91, went to be with our Lord on January 20, 2026. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. She was born on October 23, 1934, in Granite City, IL. The daughter of Raymond and Leftia Bilyeu Lewis.

Charlotte married Dexter Birdsong in Granite City, IL on July 2, 1951. Together they shared 51 years until his death on August 14, 2002.

She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She dedicated her whole life to her special needs son, Scott. He was the light of her life.

Charlotte’s spirit was rooted in grace and compassion. Her days were filled with prayer, song, and the joy of serving the Lord. She especially cherished her family and friends. She loved Cardinal baseball. She spent every summer rooting for the Cardinals whether they were doing good or terrible. She was known for her quick-witted comments and ability to make you laugh. She was always available to listen and make you feel like you were the only one in the room.

Survivors include her children, Richard (Mary) Birdsong of Alabama, Scott Birdsong of Bethalto, Nancy Boomershine (Robert) of Bethalto, honorary daughter Lisa (Jeff) Nolan of Granite City. Grandchildren Kenny Herrin, Kristen (Aaron) Edward, Randy (Christy) Herrin, Jon Birdsong, Derek Birdsong, Mason (Claire) Boomershine, Lindsey Kramer, and several great and great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dexter, she was preceded in death by a son, David Randall Birdsong, a brother, Gail Lewis, and a grandson, Jordan Boomershine.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, IL., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Pastor Ken Rutherford will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates.

Memorials are suggested to Cottage Hills Baptist church.
