Charles "Chuck" Ray, 95, went to be with the Lord, at 11:14 pm, on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Cedarhurst of Bethalto.
He was born on October 1, 1929 in East Alton, son of the late Evert and Lavada (Upchurch) Ray.
He married Maxine (Miller) on May 25, 1952, in East Alton, IL and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2016.
Chuck served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the U.S. Post Service for several years as a postal carrier, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, where he served as an usher, involved in the Zion Men's Club and sausage supper. Chuck enjoyed traveling with his wife, watching Illini Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, playing ping pong, mowing his yard at home and spending time with his family and friends.
Chuck is survived by son, Dwain (Brenda) Ray of Bethalto, IL; four grandchildren, Stacey McIntyre, Kelly Samples, Melissa (Brian) Bagby and Janel (Mike) Lorts; several great grandchildren and sister, Margaret Butts of Mt. Zion, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter, Sandra Samples, and two brothers, Jack and Jimmy Ray.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, with Pastor Brandon Metcalf officiating.
Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.
