Carol Deppe

Carol J. (Lewis) Deppe, 80, passed away peacefully at 11:45 p.m. with her loving husband by her side on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Liberty Village of Jerseyville. Born March 14, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Mabel B. Lewis (Kline).

On January 15, 1973, Carol married Timothy Deppe at the Chapel of Happiness in San Diego, California; the two enjoyed 53 loving years together. She is survived by her son Clifford Winenger (Mary Reed) of Alton and her daughter Dawn Hemingway of Edwardsville; grandchildren Haley Wagner (Brandon), Aaron Winenger (Lauren Sands), Evan Winenger (Corrina Jones) and Allison Gieseking (Justin); and great-grandchildren Bodhi Wagner, Roman Wagner, and her birthday buddy, Hayden Wagner. She is also survived by nephew Bill (Desiree) Maxwell and niece Susan (Dave) Conn.

A devoted member of the Brighton school community, Carol served as a custodian for the Brighton School District for 32 years and worked as a childcare worker at St. Francis Day Care for 14 years. She was known for making a meaningful impact on students and staff alike - bringing kindness, creativity and a gentle spirit to everything she did. She also enjoyed yard work and warm, sunny days tending the flowers around her Brighton, Illinois, home.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Connie Cheek.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Julia’s Banquet Center, 101 Eastgate Plaza, East Alton, IL. Memorial donations may be made to St. Judes or 5A’s Animal Shelter.
