Carmen Hook

Carmen J. Hook, 90, of Alton, IL passed on to her heavenly home on Friday, Nov 21, 2025 after battling Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Carmen was born on July 16, 1935, in Granite City, IL to Elvis and Theresa Fitzhugh. She was proud to have graduated from Alton High School and St. Luke’s School of Nursing. Carmen married Buddy J. Hook, her childhood sweetheart. They were married for 67 years. After several years of working as an RN, Carmen decided to focus her energies on raising her family and serving in her church and community. She was always ready with a helping hand whenever a need arose.

She was known for her tenacity in all convictions, her deep faith in Christ, her unwavering love for her family, and her generous, helping spirit. She enjoyed playing with plants in her gardens and loving on her many pets! She especially cherished her 3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Carmen is survived by her daughter Steph Buell (Jim-husband of 44 years); her son Reginald Hook, her 3 grandchildren, Jessica Redmon (Justin), Lauren Coppedge (Justin), Seth Buell (Ashley) her 9 great-grandchildren, Averey Smith, Ayla Jamar, Emerson Smith, Elliot Coppedge, Harrison Buell, Briggs Coppedge, Cordellia Buell, Turner Coppedge and Alistair Buell. She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse (Buddy died in Feb, 2025).

Timing for a celebration honoring Carmen’s life has not yet been determined.

Although we will all miss her dearly, we are comforted knowing she now resides in heaven in the company of her Savior Jesus Christ.
