Betty Hattery

Betty Jane (Buck) Hattery, age 93, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at her residence with her family by her side.

She was born in Alton, IL on December 1, 1923, the daughter of the late Raymond & Blanche (Thomas) Buck.

She married Paul E. Hattery, on March 24, 1943. He passed away on June 30, 2000. Before Paul shipped out for WWII they eloped to Warrenton, MO, then came back home and kept their marriage secret from family and friends for many days.

Initially Betty was a beautician, owning Betty’s Beauty Salon from 1943 to 1946. She was a lifelong member of the Bethalto United Methodist Church where she also served as the treasurer. She was Den Mother for her three sons in Cub Scouts, treasurer for the Bethalto Swimming Pool, and a member of the Bethalto Women’s Club, as well as the LIFT Group. She was a talented baker and cook, and loved fishing, traveling, spending time at her cottage in Chautauqua and being with her family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Suzanne) Hattery of Littleton, CO and Keith (Jerrie) Hattery of Edwardsville, Il; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tyler (Amy) Hattery, Brady Hattery, Jordon Brown and Keely (Sam) Bickel; five great grandchildren, Avery, Lucy, Jackson, Mason and Gracie; and one sister, Jo Harvey of Tucson.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Joe Allen Hattery and daughter Patti Jo Hattery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 9:30 am with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, Pastor Bill Pyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials can be made to Bethalto United Methodist Church or LCIA at New Piasa Chautauqua, IL.
