Barbara J. Myers, age 88, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Eden Village in Edwardsville, IL.

Barbara was born in Gideon, MO, November 6, 1935, daughter of the late Everett and Lillian (Nance) Sparrowk. She married Glenn Myers in 1985 at East Alton United Methodist Church, he preceded her in death.

She was employed as a secretary for Rockford Life Ins Company and later as a sales associate for JC Penney where she retired from, after 20-plus years in sales. She loved her Sunday dinners with family making her famous mostaccioli and fried chicken meals, holiday decorating (especially Christmas), enjoyed fishing, going on walks, traveling with family, especially to Bennett Springs, MO and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grandma was always found at one of our houses with her apron on ready to cook or clean with a warm smile and twinkle in her eye ready to toss any clutter in the trash. Including the famous dove band.

Barbara is survived by her children, Terry Thornton of Bethalto, Roger Thornton (Susie Thomas) of Cottage Hills and Melody (Michael) Sinks of Cottage Hills; six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her daughter in law, Donna Thornton and brothers Tom, Steve and Joe Sparrowk.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, with Reverend Edward Granadosin officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of East Alton.
