Barbara Hall

A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, Barbara Lee Hall, age 82, of Keystone Place at Magnolia Commons in Glen Carbon, IL, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and resident, joined the Church Triumphant on Monday, March 2, 2026, and was surrounded by her loved ones.

Barb was undoubtedly met by her late husband, Joseph Hall, who has been waiting to be reunited with his wife. In addition to her husband, Barb reunited with her beloved parents, Edward and Leona (Legare) Wonders; four brothers, Donald (Mildred) Wonders, Cecil (Margaret) Wonders, Tom (Pat) Wonders and Dennis Wonders; and four sisters, Phyllis (Albert) Matsko, Alice (Lee) Abell, Margaret Shirley, Katherine Wonders and Sharon (Michael) Majernik; and one brother-in-law William Ross, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving children, Mark (Melissa) Hall of O’Fallon, MO, Marla Miller (fiancé James Planitz) of Granite City, IL; siblings, Linda Ross of Raymore, MO and Ginger (Arthur) Connor of Dwight, IL; brother-in-law, David Shirley of Minonk, IL; proud grandmother to Tyler Antonovich of Pocohontas, IL, Kaylee Antonovich of Granite City, IL, David Hall of O’Fallon, MO, and Joshua Hall of O’Fallon, MO; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends, and many loving care-takers.

Barb was born on March 14, 1943, in Streator, IL. She was one of twelve children born to Edward and Leona. Together with her six surviving sisters, Barb was one of what the family playfully called the “seven wonders of the world,” and coined herself the “eighth wonder of the world,” since she was the eighth child born of the eleven. She graduated from Streator High School in 1961, McKendree College from 1961-1965. There, she met the love of her life, Joe, of Carmi, IL, and they were married on January 30, 1966. Joe preceded her in death on April 19, 1986.

Barb was a faithful and active member of the many United Methodist Churches that her husband Joe pastored and held her final membership at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Maryville, IL. She found joy in singing in the choir, playing handbells, serving others, attending Sunday School and Bible studies, teaching Vacation Bible School, and cooking for her family, baking her famous cheesecakes for church auctions and chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren. Barb loved joining in fellowship with others and spent her life serving others and worshiping. She retired as a bookkeeper at Gateway Regional Medical Center, in Granite City, in 2005, in order to enjoy time with her first grandchild. She worked at Providence Occupational Health Services, where she met many life-long friends, including Bonnie Gamble, her best friend and world travel partner.

Barb enjoyed cooking and baking, traveling, movies, crafting, playing bunco, cards, board games, singing, reading, and listening to country, easy listening, and Christian music. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and pets, whom she loved dearly. She was always up for anything, especially if she was doing it surrounded by her family. She rarely ever missed a family event, including reunions, sports practices or games, and enjoyed going anywhere she was invited by friends and family. She enjoyed vacationing and traveled on nearly every trip with Mark, Marla, and their families. She also enjoyed traveling with her sisters. Barb had a knack for making people feel special. No matter what she was doing, she would have a listening ear, a kind word to say, and a smile on her face bringing joy to others. Barb will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend to many. She was very shy and reserved but was always willing to lend a helping hand and serve others. Barb will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, but she is no doubt shining her light eternally now, happy and at peace.

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Irwin Chapel, with Rev. Robin Lyons officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery at 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL immediately following the service.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
