Arthur "Art" E. Phelps, 80, of Cottage Hills, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in St. Louis.
He was born on October 2, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Arthur W. and Gertrude (Scott) Phelps. Art married Mary A. Pickering on June 14, 1969, at the First Baptist Church of Roxana. She preceded him in death on September 24, 2011. He later married his now surviving spouse, Georgia at the Hope Church in East Alton.
Art worked in the IT department of US Bank before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roxana. Art enjoyed playing on computers, listening to music, fishing, and going out to eat. Most of all, he loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Along with his wife, Georgia, he is survived by his children, Dave Phelps of East Alton, Greg Phelps of Moro, and Tim (Nicki) Phelps of Alton; a sister, Arlene Thomas of Florence, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Brittany, Brendan, Connor, Corbin, Addison, and Colin; and one great-grandchild, Eli.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary; and a brother-in-law, James Thomas.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 10 a.m. Pastor Glen Diveley will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
