Arthur L. Pender, 73, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital after a courageous fight with an extended illness. He was born on August 8, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Arthur Clellan and Lillian Ruth (Crowley) Pender. He married the former Kathy Wilson on June 24, 1978, in St. Louis County, and she survives. Other survivors include five sons and daughters in law: Arthur and Nichole Pender of St. Charles, Missouri, Christopher and Stacey Pender of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Keith and Melissa Pender of Edwardsville, Timothy and Jamie Pender of Edwardsville, Joseph and Amanda Pender of Edwardsville, seventeen grandchildren, an expectant granddaughter, three great grandchildren, an expectant great grandchild, two brothers and sisters in law: Ken and Kay Pender of Imperial, Missouri, Jon and Deb Pender of Kimberling City, Missouri, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
A mechanic by trade, Arthur worked at Plaza Motors and Autohaus where he worked on BMWs. He formerly owned Art’s Automotive. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, fishing, playing wiffle ball with his kids, the St. Louis Cardinals, and was very active with his family's activities.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Jeanette Veltri.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of reflection services at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Holiday Shores Fire Department and will be accepted at the funeral home.
