Aron Scott

Aron Scott, 48, of East Alton, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

He was born on October 11, 1977, in Alton, IL, the son of Ronald E. and Lois V. (Woker) Scott. Aron married Colleen E. Sammis on July 24, 2010, in Bethalto. She survives.

Aron attended Saint Paul Lutheran School, Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Roxana High School in 1996. During his time at Roxana, he was a star athlete excelling in track and field. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University in Accountancy. He later received his master’s in business administration from Lindenwood University.

He honorably served in the United States Army achieving the rank of Major. He served as a “13A” field artillery officer in Bravo Battery “Bone Crushers”, 1/5 Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division “Big Red 1”. He served multiple tours in Iraq in field artillery assignments. He was a professor of military science at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and served as the Commander of U.S. Army Southern Illinois Recruiting Command. Aron was a proud member of American Legion Post 43, La Grande, Oregon, and was a member of multiple other veterans’ organizations.

Aron attended Our Lady Queen of Peace and was an active proponent in his children’s education. He loved being a father and was very devoted to his three sons. He was passionate about classic cars and an avid car collector. Aron frequently volunteered in support of his children’s educational institutions and was the first to volunteer to help family and friends in need.

Along with his wife, Colleen, and mother, Lois, he is survived by his children, Clayton Scott, Rowan Scott, and Waylon Scott; brother, Erik Scott; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Charles Sammis and Phyllis Sammis; sister-in-law, Joanna (Nate) Schulte; brother-in-law, John Sammis; uncle, Glen Woker; aunt, Lana Woker; and niece and nephew Seanna and Kylian Schulte.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 1 to 4 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Mass will be on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 9:30 am, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto, with Father Tom Liebler as celebrant. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, at 11:30 am with full military honors.
