Allan Rehbein

Allan J. Rehbein, 94, of O’Fallon, IL, born on August 23, 1931, in Mascoutah, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Allan was 8th of nine children. He went to 2 country schools before going to Mascoutah Community grade school in 8th grade. He went to Mascoutah Community High School. Allan joined the Air Force in September 1949 through February 1953. He went to weather school at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL. He was a weather observer in Newfoundland, Goose Bay Labrador, Thule, Greenland. Then Allan went back to the States to Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force February 6, 1953, at the rank of Staff Sargent. He married Lyla J. Phillips in 1954.

Allan studied General Business at Eastern Illinois University and graduated with a degree in Education in 1958. He went on to get an M.S. at SIU-Edwardsville in 1970. Allan continued his career as a teacher. He taught at Marissa Grade School 1960-1961; Harmony MG-District 175 1961-1968; District 90 – O’Fallon, IL 1968-1994. He retired in 1994.

Allan was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in O’Fallon, IL. He was an avid reader, had a love of History and enjoyed playing golf with his friends.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Martha Rehbein (nee Hughes); two sisters, Eileen Holcomb, Marjorie Odom; six brothers, Henry Rehbein, William Rehbein, Kenneth Rehbein, Robert Rehbein, Donald Rehbein, Carlyn Rehbein; one daughter-in-law, Pam Rehbein; and one great-granddaughter, True Grace Rehbein.

Left to cherish Allan’s memory is his beloved wife, Lyla Rehbein (nee Phillips); three children, Deborah (John) Frankenbach of Mahomet, IL, Robin (Tom) Pierce of Maryville, IL, Brian Rehbein of Marion, IL; seven grandchildren, Janelle (Kai) Kulmala, Christine (Bryan) Buck, Nathan (Sally) Pierce, Micah (Lorena) Pierce, Rachel (Chris) Linder, Jeremy (Tara) Rehbein, Joel (Kaci) Pierce; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will begin on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at Schildknecht Funeral Home; 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL 62269, with Pastor Doug Munton officiating.
