Albert Vernon Wren, 87, passed away at 9:48 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on September 2, 1937 in Lyon County, Kentucky the son of the late Ambrose James and Etheline (Wells) Wren. Vernon retired from Laclede Steel as an equipment operator.
In 2003 he married Bonnie LaVona May (Milner) and she preceded him in death on December 23, 2018.
Surviving are one daughter, Annette Sewell of Alton, five step children, Deb DeVous (Bill) of Centre, AL, Ronnie Streich of FL, Gary Stevenson (Sherry) of South Roxana, Lisa Smither (Marc) of KY and Julie Hogue of Alton, two grandchildren, Steven Sewell of Godfrey, Jamie Walker of Alton and three great grandchildren, Gemma Sewell, Carter Sewell and Ashlynn Watson.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son in law, Charles Sewell and one brother, Junior Ambrose Wren.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Randy Butler will officiate.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
